Methodology: IHC

Clinical Significance:
Identifies E-cadherin, a transmembrane protein the function of which is cell-cell adhesion. Lobular carcinomas of the breast can be distinguished from ductal carcinomas by the presence in the former of genetic or epigenetic changes affecting the E-cadherin gene resulting in loss, or profound reduction, of expression of E-cadherin protein.
