FUS Breakapart pin

FUS Breakapart

Methodology: FISH

Clinical Significance:
Low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma (LGFMS) is an indolent, late-metastasizing malignant soft-tissue tumor that is often mistaken for either benign or more malignant tumor types. Rearrangement of the FUS gene has been seen in these tumors, and can be used to aid in diagnosis. The FUS (fused in sarcoma) Breakapart probe is designed to detect rearrangement of the FUS gene on the short arm of chromosome 16 (16p11). The FUS gene encodes a multi-functional protein involved in, among other things, transcriptional activation and RNA binding. It is a member of the TET family of proteins that also includes EWS.
