Clinical Significance:
Identifies: Smoothelin, a marker of terminally differentiated smooth muscle cells, relatively specific for the muscularis propria (positive) compared with the muscularis mucosae (largely negative). Used to assess the degree of invasion of colorectal and bladder carcinomas, particularly in small biopsies.

Specimen Requirements:
• Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue block or cell block - OR -
