This FISH assay detects the t(9;22), which results in the BCR-ABL fusion gene. The hallmark of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) is the presence of the BCR-ABL fusion gene associated with the Philadelphia chromosome (Ph). All cases of CML have a t(9;22) or variant and detection of this genetic abnormality is important in the diagnosis of CML. The BCR/ABL fusion gene resulting from the t(9;22) is the target for the tyrosine kinase inhibitor drug imatinib. Probe type: Dual color dual fusion translocation
