Transthyretin identifies a serum protein produced by the liver and choroid plexus. It forms the basis of one subtype of amyloid, identification of which, and distinction from immunoglobulin light chain derived amyloids, can be made by immunohistochemistry. Transthyretin can also serve as a marker of choroid plexus tumors.
